First Month with Friendly

Very interesting two weeks with Friendly due to the flooding in our area. I think he adjusted better than me! He has been doing some sleepovers at my son's home and likes it there too. Friendly loved the FEMA guy that come to access the damages, what a dog! Basic obedience training has been excellent. His only trouble so far has been: he is easily distracted.

Black is Better!

Just saw a blog about black doodles and had to comment. Our recently adopted doodle is black and you couldn't ask for a better dog.

Exercising with my dogs

Well! Who knew it could be so much fun. Usually it's a walk for a half hour or a trip to the leash free... which is good, sometimes. I watched an episode "At the end of my leash" and got inspired! My dogs, to calm their inside rough housing, need to be more stimulated (and structured!) during their routine exercise. Sooo...

I put on my helmet, straddled my bike and off we went. We started last night. WOW. What an incredibly rewarding experience.… Continue

Dear Foster Dog(goD)

Bless me, for I have sinned.

I cursed Foster Dog (made in your image) as I clipped him to his leash and led him to the cold back yard.

I cursed him as I wiped the fecal matter from my freshly painted wall and my favorite rug. I cursed him as I hosed down the crate his Guardian Angel (Aunt Liz) gave me when I took in one more dog than I ever imagined I could handle.

I cursed him as I washed him with the cold garden hose water, rinsed the poo out of his coat,… Continue

Funny doodle quirks

I had to write these down before I forgot... Tessa has some of the funniest quirks! I wonder if this or if it is in fact a species thing, and not just a breed thing. Hmmm. Either way, every time she does them I laugh out loud... perhaps it's because the expression on her face? GOOFY girl!

1. Taking her large doodly paw and smacking her brother in the head or face until he starts tackling her... (Poor Cody, he sometimes hides under the table or leaps on me on the couch to have…

How to get comfortable!

Who needs a pillow or a teddy bear when cats are around?!!? Miss Thalie decided to get comfortable yesterday... so Shadow was used as a pillow and Mocha as her teddy bear. Cats can be useful sometimes!…

Cuddly Tessa

It's Friday night and we've had the most beautiful day in Oakville... the sun was shining and it felt like spring! Chris had the dogs outside all day while he worked on his truck and left the windows and doors open to freshen up the place.

We went out tonight for some all you can eat sushi with good friends of ours. We've come home now with our Tim Horton's coffee and tea and while Chris plays a video game I am online, looking at all the cute adoptable doodles. (Currently IN LOVE with… Continue

Adopted a Doodle

After searching for the perfect doodle to train as therapy dog, he arrived at a dog park last Sunday thanks to Apple Canyon Critters Rescue. We named him Friendly and he is adjusting to his new home nicely. Will keep you posted on his progress and training.

It just keeps getting better....

I am extending an apology to all my Doodle friends that I have not posted in so long. Time has slipped by so quickly but I wanted to take a moment to update everyone on Cali's progress.

1. She discovered that trash cans can contain some very tasty specimans. So we changed some of our habits and she has learned to leave it alone. I obviously had a momentary lapse of memory in what it is like to have a 2 year old in the house again.

2. She has two…

My Little Cub Scout

One of the great joys of working with Poe is watching this aloof boy blossom into a loving, protective member of our family. Although he is still a bit hand shy with strangers, he is developing new confidence along with a sense of security and belonging.

I posted this picture on DK, but here's more of the story that goes with it.

Saturday afternoon, I was cleaning my pantry as the storm started to pick up intensity. Out of nowhere, the wind started gusting. I heard a *whoosh*… Continue

Marco has a baby Sister!!!!!

The past couple of weeks have been very hectic but fun in the Hart household. Marco has a new baby sister who is 9 weeks old. Her name is "Mocha Chaca Latte" and we call her Chaca; she is the first puppy we have had in our home in over 29 years. As you all know, Marco is totally my baby and although he's very sweet with Rob and Papa, he's most definitely a "mommy cling-on".

That being said, a few months ago Rob told me he really missed having his own "buddy" that would go everywhere… Continue

Yeah, yeah, I know. You're looking at that picture and thinking, no, Patty, you nut, that's clearly Floyd. Look, right over there ---->, he's listed as Floyd!

But that's all history; this is Poe. …

Jerry, the Ronald McDonald Home dog!

The main goal of the Ronald McDonald House is to create a home-away-from-home for families with children living with life-threatening illnesses. This is made possible through caring staff members, volunteers, donations, love and support. However one caregiver in particular provides a sense of home like nothing else. He is patient, loving, happy and very hairy. His name is Jerry and he is the…

Lizzy's Wellness Exam

It's been about 3 months now that we were lucky enough to find a dood in need living with a family that didn't have time for her or it seemed the interest in her as a "person with fur"! One toy(who loves critters and has one toy?), crated for 8-10 hours a day, no grooming and very little vet attention. She absorbs love like a sponge and is part of our family now like she has always been here. The better news is after her complete physical and wellness exam, she has been pronounced"perfect" by… Continue

A different kind of foster

"Y'know, I think you should blog about this," Liz mentioned to me earlier today. "It would be interesting to highlight a different kind of foster."

When she called me a few weeks ago, Liz mentioned that a fellow member needed some help due to a medical…

Forget the laundry, love a Doodle!

For the last three weeks I have been fighting a good old fashioned case of "whooping cough" but am happy to report I finally feel healed. Leave it to me to catch something from the 1920's...hah! I didn't even know it still existed until I caught it. Anyway, thank God for modern medicine. Even though I've had an annoying cough that has been exhausting I have still worked, so needless to say I've been really tired every night.

Marco has been hovering over me since I've been sick and… Continue

Update on Finnegan

Hi all, I wanted to let you all know that Finny is doing great! My 1-year old nephew, Jack, LOVES him and follows him everywhere when we visit (which is most weekends). Finnegan's energy level has gone through the roof (comparatively, he's still a mellow dog) and he is very fit (thanks to my sister taking him running and long hikes with me in the woods). Finn acts much more like the 2-year old he is - spinning and jumping and playing all the time now. He's obsessed with playing ball. It's…
