‎"It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them. And every new dog who comes into my life 'gifts' me with a piece of their heart.
If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog & I will become as generous & loving as they are."

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."Margaret Mead

"You can measure the impeccability of your word by your level of self-love. How much you love yourself and how you feel about yourself are directly proportionate to the quality and integrity of your word. When you are impeccable with your word, you feel good; you feel happy and at peace. You can transcend the dream of hell just by making the agreement to be impeccable with your word. Right now I am planting that seed in your mind. Whether or not the seed grows depends upon how fertile your mind is for the seeds of love. It is up to you to make this agreement with yourself: I am impeccable with my word. Nurture this seed, and as it grows in your mind, it will generate more seeds of love to replace the seeds of fear. This first agreement will change the kind of seeds your mind is fertile for."

- Don Miguel Ruiz, from his amazing book 'The Four Agreements"

If A Dog Were Your Teacher

If a dog were your teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.

Let others know when they've invaded your territory.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout,

run right back and make friends.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.  Stop when you have enough.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

And MOST of all..........

When someone is having a bad day, be silent,

sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

An Indian legend says: " When a human dies there is a bridge they must cross to enter into Heaven. At the head of the bridge waits every animal that human encountered during their lifetime. The animals, based on what they know of this person, decide which humans may cross the bridge...and which are turned away."

In Lak'ech Ala K'in

Every action we take in our lives affects all living things. We understand that if we act negatively, our actions impact all life negatively. When we act positively, we affect all life in a positive manner.

“Once you make a decision, the universe conspires to make it happen.”

∞ Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Kindness is not passing out bouquets or being unrealistic about the challenges such as you describe. It is however, a deliberate discipline of not indulging in the weakness and self satisfaction of simply getting your ya-ya’s out by screaming and yelling (actually and figuratively), pointing fingers and getting in fights that produce collateral damage that takes time and energy to clean up…if it can be cleaned up at all. Kindness is not even about liking people or approving of what they do. It is, in fact, entirely independent of ones personal feelings and can be quite ruthless. Someone I respect once advised me to treat difficult people like frightened animals. Yelling at them only makes things worse."

"I’ve got one shot at this thing called life ... I can spend it focused on tearing other people down and stewing in a pile of negativity, or I can spend it on raising the world up. It was time for me to pull a big dumpster up to my life and empty everything into it that didn’t matter and everything that was a source of negativity and hatred." - Julie Castle, Best Friends Conf.

"You know what I love about some people? When they think they have pulled the rug out from under you and all they really did was pave the way for you to succeed. It is True - when you do positive things and really do care about the animals, and stand behind what you say, well the Universe responds in a positive way." PR

"Staying calm is the best way to take the wind out of an angry person's sails. He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty."

‎"The thing about people is that sometimes they hesitate. They may love, may be devoted and call you friend...but sometimes, maybe for only a fraction of a second, they’ll hesitate when times turn tough. They’ll blink. Dogs don’t hesitate. They stand by our side, no matter the odds, the reason, the depth of cold. If we step into the blackest of nights, they step with us, and sometimes — most of the time — they take the first step."

I am a mom to twin boys (16), a teacher and an animal advocate. We all live in Central NJ. My husband is a computer subcontracter for the Army and a volunteer fireman (3rd generation). We are busy. My dogs take center stage as they are young and my kids believe the dogs eat better than they do.

This site was begun by three friends who had a vision. Those goals and the friendships have taken different directions, but this site will continue to be a resource for rescue, adoption and responsible animal ownership.

Hi Lynn,

I looked again follow or stop following is not there.  After the pictures end there is a tiny yellow box on the right but no other words anywhere above that yellow line.  Thank you for explaining about the apps.  I did fill one out last night.

Hi Lynn,

Believe it or not I still can not see it,  I even showed the site to my husband.  I am looking on the bottom of the Northeast page above the yellow line.  I feel very stupid. I also wanted to ask you about something else you mentioned,  You said to begin filling out applications, where should I be doing that?

Thank you

Janet

Lynne, Wow! Yes you can share our website www.rruffdogpark.org The best way you can help us is to let us help you back. Promoting what we are doing here in Rocklin   and our events would be great. And we would spread the word for you about doodles needing homes in Northern Ca.   If your group wants to have an adoption day at the dog park, we would be happy to host it.  We are about 30 miles East of Sacramento and about 15 miles West of Auburn.   Two hours to Lake Tahoe and about 2 hours east of S.F./Bay Area     Keep your eyes out for us for a goldendoodle -
