Any advice on being able to tell the diff? Any cons on airedales? I have been around 2 different ones.. used to house sit one 20years ago but cant remember much about it.

I just called and it is like all pound dogs.. 2years old hahahaha It was a stray? dumped type thing.. our shelter has kennels in front of it because people drop them in the middle of the night and atleast this way they are safe till the workers come in the morning. She was left in one of those kennels. Otherwise they know nothing about her. Today is her first day up and Im sure she was spayed first so she has been there a short bit.
Ok, Im so excited I can barely stand it but Im also feeling that "dont do it" feeling.. everyone says you want a puppy with little kids so they grow together.. argh.. Im still going to go look tomorrow! :-)
It's hard to tell in the pic without seeing a full body and face shot. But Krista what it is right it is right. Don't ignore a beautiful dog if she is perfect but not a doodle. Remember anything mixed with a poodle is a doodle.

Plus, a puppy is A LOT of work. Don't dismiss an older, calm sweetie pie for a puppy that you don't know what the personality will be. Give her a chance. I have gotten all my dogs older and they are just as sweet, loving and protective of their family because they have seen the harder side of life.

Keep your excitement, it is a good thing. Let us know how it goes.
I think he is a mix of Airedale and poodle. He/she look so sad and need a family to take good care of him... and a bath!
Go with your heart Krista and never mind if this is a doodle or not if you felt in love with this beauty... go for it. As Lynne said, maybe a "older" dog will be better with little kids. No chew on them but a lot more patient. You'll know when you'll see him/her.

Keep us p Krista!
I know.. she does look sad and filthy! This is why I cant go into shelters. I would be a animal hoarder! lol lol
Just focus on her (more easy to say than to do I know, I can't go there either) and if you can, get her out of there and take her to a groomer!
I'm excited for you! Like others have said, don't worry if it is a doodle or not, focus on the personality of the dog and if he/she is a fit for you.

I agree with everyone else...looks like a mix of airedale/poodle. Beautiful coloring and I bet cleaned up would be a lovely dog! I prefer dogs a little older as I don't want to go thru the dreaded puppy stage! I think that an older dog would be easier with young children to care for. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!!!
Hey Krista, did you get to visit this dog?
What happened? Was he a doodle?
Sadly I did not get down there yet and not sure I can this week either. She appears to still be at the shelter too.

I had plans and then babysitter didnt show early enough and blah blah blah.. it was a extremely busy week with the adoption lawyer and doctor appts and such.. this week is more of the same and then its calm for another while! :-)

Unfortunately my parents are not very supportive of us getting a dog. My mother is rather afraid of bigger dogs and she does help me do a lot around the house with the twins and such and she sees it as more work that I dont need. If that was the case, then life is pretty much not worth doing! I mean isnt anything work.. nothing is easy right? Hubby and I are well aware of what we are doing and quite capable adults to make our own decisions.. lol We had dogs as I grew up and my mom does very well with my cousins great dane and she actually likes the dane! So she will like what we get especially when she sees how the boys love the dog.

Anyways.. she is my only babysitter and that makes it difficult because basically Im sneaking around behind her back (at 43yrs old) to find a dog. lol

Our shelter is also in a very bad gang area so I dont really want to take the kids until I know we have found a dog. Then we will take them during the day and together to play with the dog and see how things work out. See, when I say we are at home all the time.. we are REALLY at home all the time. We live 40minutes from anything and my parents are 40min away to babysit.. so leaving is a chore! :-)

So my long answer is no, I did not get down there but have intentions to try again! :-)
I understand Krista. Life can be busy and we get no chance to do what we have planned. Keep up the faith and if this one is for you, he/she will wait for you to come pick him/her up. Lynne will call that "karma"! You boys are the priority now and the time will come when you will fine time for your and their new companion and your mom will fall in love too!
