"LUKE" A Christmas Blessing Under Disguise as a Foster Golden Doodle !

Luke a 9 month old, apricot-blond, male, 45 lb, Golden Doodle was owner surrendered 14 December 2009. "Owner surrender"the first time I heard DRC use that term it created many mental images. Why give away your dog, maybe problems, we have all heard the horror stories. Not in Luke's case, his family found themselves in an extremely difficult situation. They loved him enough to allow D.R.C. to find him a wonderful new home.We have only had him three full days now and find him to be a highly intelligent and intuitive. Luke's family taught him basic commands verbally and with hand signals he is praise and food motivated. Luke's coat is a combination of both AKC Mother and Father, Poodle & Golden Retriever, FYI. He has slept all night by our bed, is crate trained, puppy chewing has been completely under control with a Busy Buddy Tug-a-Jug recommended by our local trainer, Cold Nose College. He is completely house trained. His family told us that Luke will come to you and make a noise is he wants to go outside. Luke has that wonderful Golden quality of wanting to be by your side and dotes on your every word, he is extremely well mannered. We saw a dog with crazy energy the day we picked Luke up but have not seen it since. We feel that could be due to the freedom and exercise that he has here. Luke's family did both work and Luke was crated. His skin is dander free and we have seen absolutely no hair shedding. During bath time I was able to remove very little undercoat and hair, so he is great for those of us who have allergies. He has been gentle with our cat, they have been nose to nose many times and Luke has not offered to chase her. Luke will get as close to her as she will let him and he will lay down and just watch her. We have found that he will lay down when he wants something that you have in your hands. He has learned how to open the bathroom door and can roll down the car windows - We have to use the child safety locks - Luke loves to go for rides and loves to stick his head out and ears blowing in the wind. He was a perfect gentleman at the Vet's office and everyone fell in love with him. We whole heartedly recommend Luke for any situation where he will be mentally stimulated and please no long term crating. He is the perfect example of what Ceasar Milan says that a dog needs,"calm assertive energy, always compassionate, but quietly in control"
Again we are thankful for DRC allowing us to foster a Doodle. Love & Licks, Luke, MJ & Cokie

I am glad things are going well. It is so rewarding to foster. I am up to #8 for this year. Some are easier then others. But they all take a piece of my heart with them when they go home. You are doing a great thing.
MJ - Luke couldn't be in better hands then with you and Cokie. Love the story above
Happy Holidays to you and yours John and txs for the comment it was heart felt.
Luke has been adopted by a NJBeach family, Cool huh, Luke the Beach Boy! If you get a chance to meet them, quiet possibly Luke could be a good dog to help Max with his socializing. Even though Luke shows his puppy excitement at times, he is really a pup with a grandmother's heart and a kind mellow soul.

I laughed out loud at the description of Luke....he sounds very much like Marlow. What a wonderful dog and I am so glad he has found a home on the beach with a great family! Thanks for fostering him!
MJ,
I cannot express my gratitude for your not only fostering Luke, but for this posting. So many people think "owner surrender" is a horrible thing for someone to do and only the worst dog or owner are involved. My first full-fledged duty as "Director, Texas and Southern Region" (huge, right????) was a beautiful owner surrendered goldendoodle who came from a very caring family whose economic conditions were causing them to move from a house to an apartment. The mother had an 8-month-old baby and found herself in need of returning to work.
I cannot tell you how much time, first Jacquie, then I took to prove that the DRC was a real entity and we weren't trying to take her dog for bad purposes! She is a responsible pet owner. She is a loving pet owner. She fell on hard times and wanted to make sure that we were legitimate (and people complain that OUR applications are hard!!! :).
It sounds like you did a great job with Luke showing him that you were a link in his "love chain". I don't know you personally, but believe me when I say TTTTTTHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doodle Hugs,
Kim
