ZSA ZSA - LABRADOODLE WHO HAD BEEN MISSING - UPDATE

Rescuers are an interesting group of people. Passion is sometimes an understatement. Rescuers aren't only the individuals who are a part of an "agency" who fill out the forms and pull from the shelters.
A rescuer can take the role of the woman who owns cats but drives on her day off to wave a rotisserie chicken through the woods to look for a lost dog. A rescuer can be the 10-year-old girl who puts up the posters and the updated posters and the updated updated posters. A rescuer can be the one a thousand miles away that says at least one prayer per day for the safe return of a lost pet.
On behalf of the DRC, we want to thank all the rescuers who helped in the search for Zsa Zsa, the beautiful silver labradoodle that was lost soon after joining her forever family when she spooked and bolted. It is truly amazing that so many individuals, so many RESCUERS, were involved in trying to save this dog, going beyond what any of us could have anticipated.
So many people answered the plea for help. The hours spent on the search were staggering.

The adoptive family's neighborhood became quite involved in the search as well. Sighting after sighting were called in to them, only to have Zsa Zsa dart for cover in the woods attached to the neighorhood. Another call came in today that she had been seen near the highway. The husband and wife loaded into the car once again to try to get to her.
Before reaching the site, another call came in. Absolutely not the call that one wanted to hear, but they were informed that Zsa Zsa had been hit by a car. She was killed instantly.
The couple called in for local police help while they wrapped her in a blanket and took her for the first and last visit to what would have been her vet. They kept her collar as a tangible momento of the love that they had for the dog they knew so shortly, but loved so much.
The family have two school-aged children who were taken out of their classrooms today, taken home and told the news. Please say a prayer for this family's healing.
And while you are praying for them, thank God or the one to whom you pray that Zsa Zsa touched lives while she was with us. As her first and only foster home, I can tell you she was a very special beautiful pet.

Beautifully said, Kim. I am so sad today that I am numb. It's funny how you can love someone or something without ever meeting them in person. I'm so sad I never had the chance to meet Zsa Zsa, but I know that she was deeply loved by those who met her and those who didn't. Your magnificent photos bring all of us closer to these homeless dogs. They serve as an introduction and an incentive to want to meet them in person. She was lucky to live with you and for all the ways you tried to make her life better as you do with all the dogs you rescue. I know she went to a good and loving home. If she hadn't been so afraid she would have had a great life with them. That's what puppy mills and unsocializing breeders to to these sweet souls. It's hard to undo that damage. It cost Zsa Zsa her life. Anyway, thanks for all you do to make their lives better. I'm thinking of you and her family tonight and sending you all wishes of comfort. Jane
I'm so sorry to hear the sad end of Zsa Zsa life. I hope she didn't suffer too long.
She was a very beautiful doodle. I'm very sad for her family and all the DRC volunteers.
I am very sorry to hear about this. It truly saddened me....
Jane,
Thank you for your help in this endeavor. Your enthusiasm and encouragement, not to mention your willingness to make a difference, are very much appreciated. I have shared your part of this story with all my DRC cronies, plus a few others, because the visual I've created (and embellished) has made for quite a giggle which we all needed desperately.
With MUCH admiration for your love of all living things,
Kim
Hi Kim,
I wish I had done more, but thanks for your kind words. I really did try to get those heat-seeking night goggles from a police friend, but the chief said that they didn't have them any more. What? In NYC?
I thought you had a hilarious, creative idea until I envisioned being shot at by neighbors who thought I was a prowler in their backyards. That would have made the papers. I saw lots of dogs out today and each one reminded me of the good life Zsa Zsa was so close to having and how cheated I feel that she never got what she deserved. I guess we have to focus on the happy endings of all of the dogs and cats who make it out of the shelter system. MUCH admiration right back at ya. You do this every day in one way or another.
Keep up the good work and have a good Thanksgiving.
Jane
Kim,
I'm so sorry to hear about Zsa Zsa. I know that there are many people who are devastated by this news. We have been and will continue to pray for you all. Please know that even as we travel to adopt Dudley our hearts will grieve for that precious girl and all of you.
