Guess who's coming to NJ?

Surrendered to a kill shelter down South, Dolly is a sweet.......

What breed do you think she is?

Dolly is a gorgeous Itty Bitty who found herself in a Southern Kill Shelter and was rescued and was transported to NJ. Dolly is very sweet and is a little shy at first, but warms up and trusts quickly. She is only about 15 pounds and we would prefer a home without small children and a physical fence. Dolly is being fostered in Toms River, NJ, and her foster mom says she is near perfect. If you are interested in adopting Dolly and giving her a Forever Home, please send an application.

Hi Lynn, My Dolly should be arriving soon. Please let me know how she is doing. I miss her so much, but have spent the day with Eddie and Shirley, who will be coming your way in a couple of weeks.  They are also a joy and I am sure it will be just as hard to send them off as it was Dolly. I am just an old softie who loves the doggies.

Thanks for sharing Gail.  It made my day brighter.  I would love to see more pictures and hear more stories about the dogs you helped.

Gail, you can go to your page (the My Page Tab, above) and post them on your own page, or you can start a blog and tell your stories. On your page, they will be in a slide show that will run by itself. A blog is like a diary and you are very welcome to share all your foster stories. There's also a Foster Group (under Resources tab) but I haven't had time to work on it much lately.

If you have any other pics of Dolly, you are welcome to post them here, just click on the tiny photo (second icon over the comment box and upload from your computer). We would love to see them.

These pictures posted above of Dolly is when she was in a pen at the Vet and had just left the Kill Shelter. The pictures at the Shelter were horrific and so sad.  That is why I went immediately to get her.  Even at the Vet, you can tell Dolly is traumatized to the point she is depressed, despondent and won't make eye contact.  The new Dolly is a completely different doggie and is so much more trusting just three weeks later.  Always ready to run up to you with a wagging tail, a hug around the leg, and a fond lick. Good eye contact, happy, and ready to please.

Thank you to everyone for assuring me that my girl will be loved. Just be sure to keep me posted on her progress and promise me that her forever home will be the best. You guys need to take a look at my Hairy Dog. He sort of resembled a Tazmanian Devil when I first got him from the Kill Shelter. Upon taking him to the Vet, he was immediately sheared clean. Under all those mats and profuse hair were boils and tumors from filth and degradation.  It just makes one wonder what people are thinking. And the worst part is that when the owners dumped off Hairy in such bad shape with no explanation, they were allowed to come back and adopt another dog. Two weeks later, my boy is all brand new and feeling so much better. If someone will tell me where and how to post before and after pictures of him, I will. Thanks so very much for all your help.

Now you have me crying, too, Gail. I know it's hard, I still cry with every foster that goes home, too. By this time tomorrow, she will be here and I promise tons of hugs and kisses from me and her new foster mom, Lisa.

Thank you so much for loving her and helping her on her way. I am sending hugs your way, now.

I just told my Dolly girl goodby for the last time and put her on the van heading in your direction. The crate that Carla got her is kind of small but hopefully it will make her feel more secure. She was so frightened and shaking and didn't understand why she was being sent away. I justify sending her in hopes that a nice family will adopt her and love her as much as I do. My health is not the best and Dolly needs an active life with lots of people to love her. Godspeed, Dolly. Hug her close and give her love when she gets to New Jersey.

Thank you so much, Gail, for giving us so much insight on Dolly. I can't wait to get her off transport tomorrow and my heart will be racing until she gets here. I always thought they would be a little scared on transport but every dog who has come was given so much love by each and every volunteer, that they must think that every person in the world is wonderful. These people volunteer to do this because they love helping these dogs, just like you and me. I will be at her final leg to welcome her to NJ and take her to her new foster mom, so rest assured, she will get lots of hugs and kisses along the way and when she gets here. Her new foster family have 2 other small dogs, so she will feel right at home and safe. I'll let you know how she does. Again, Thank you for taking such good care of Dolly, and all the others we will be bringing up from PawsVA. Your group has been a pleasure to work with. Sending Hugs.

I am Dolly's foster mom here in S. W. Virginia.  First off, Dolly does very well with children and doesn't mind a fence at all. Small children might make her nervous, but she would never snap or bite.  She would possibly cower and run. I am sitting here dreading 6:15 pm when Dolly must leave me.  She has been an absolute joy for these last three weeks. I am sending her little bed with her so that she can bring something with her from "home." Dolly gets very nervous with strangers, but warms up quickly with a little lovin'. Dolly tries so hard to please. She is always looking at me to see what I want her to do next.  She minds simple commands like sit and stay....very obedient, and like I said always trying to please. She crates very well, and seems comfortable with crating. She, however, did not do very well in a pen at the shelter or the vet. She became very depressed. She is happy to stay in her crate until you come calling for her.  She is very house trained. Will just whimper a little to let you know she needs to go outside. She has never barked as long as I have had her.  When I let her out front, she does her business, then returns to the door and sits patiently. If you make her wait too long....she will give you the reminder whimper.  She enjoys the back yard and loves to run in and out. She hangs out with the other dogs in the pen and then flies back into the house to check on me.  Just a great dog in every way.  I will cry for days and miss her so much, but I am hoping that she will get adopted by a wonderful family who will appreciate her and enjoy her as much as I.  She does not chew, bother the garbage............just perfect.  I tried to find faults so that I wouldn't miss her so much, and you would think in the month that I have had her, I could find just one little thing, but she only got better. She is quiet if you need her to be quiet.  And will get frisky on demand.  She is so funny when she is running in the yard.  She just goes in leaps and bounces. If she notices that you like it and are laughing, she runs faster and bounces higher. Please be good to my Dolly and find her the PERFECT home because she is the only PERFECT dog that I have ever had or fostered. She will be so frightened on this trip. Just love her and hug her lots when she gets there, and you will see what I mean about the love that she has to offer.  Talk some baby talk to her and call her Dolly Doo, and she will melt in your arms. Please keep me posted.  I also have Shirley and Jethro (Eddie) who are scheduled for the next trip. They are great babies, too.  I will write their novel next time.  LOL  As far as what kind of a dog that Dolly is, I have no clue.  She has curly hair like a poodle, but it is sparse like a Yorkie. She is a taller and longer dog than a Yorkie. And weighs 15 pounds. Perfect size. Not too big and not too little.Thank you for helping us out here in Southwestern Virginia. God only knows we need it.  The kill shelter got in 15 or 16 new little dogs yesterday - mostly owner releases, so they don't have much time, and all the fosters are out of space. Dolly's departure toward her forever home will open up a space to save one more. I will never forget Dolly, and would sincerely appreciate it if new fosters or adoptive family would keep me posted. Gail
