There are so many doodle owners out there these days who find that they can no longer care for their pet due to financial reasons. The last four dogs/puppies that have come through the TX vein of DRC have been owner surrenders for just that reason. It is a heart-wrenching decision, but ultimately the best one (I've been told it's easier to adopt a child from another country than to get a DRC dog - we require more references LOL) because we network and use the website to find great applicants. We foster first in almost every case to gauge the personalities of the dogs we're dealing with.

So...you ask...what about that opinion I'm looking for?

What do you think is the best way to get the word out to the public that, as the Whos in Whoville would say, "We are here! We are here! We are here!!!"?

I don't want this to be a "debate forum". I want each post to be an idea or an agreement with an idea. No dissing any ideas, please. Leave that to me in private! JK :)

Network, network, network...like we have been doing. Facebook, Twitter, every and any list we can get on. Fliers to shelters, little by little...we're getting there.
Great idea, Suze.
1. Search engine optimization (SEO).

The DRC site comes up first when I search on "labradoodle rescue" but nowhere near first when I search on:

Labradoodle (or goldendoodle) rehome
Labradoodle (or goldendoodle) give up
Doodle give up
Doodle rehome

I can help with SEO if y'all are interested. Be warned - I am no expert.

2. Testimonials on the home page

I'm guessing that the hardest part of giving up a dog is wondering what will happen and how the dog will be cared for. Once an owner is here, we should give reassurance that we're the light at the end of the tunnel... and the best rescue for his or her dog. We could put a testimonial (or several) from an owner who gave up his or her dog prominently on the home page. Yes, this would be difficult. We'd have to reassure the owner that we would not disclose his or her identity. We could pair it with a testimonial from an adoptive family who took an owner give-up, spotlighting how the dog acclimated to the new family and giving reassurance that the adoptive families are loving. We could also do a little spotlight on a foster family to show how the dog is evaluated and loved while in transition to his or her new family.

I can keep thinkin'...
