We have an application that is very nearly completed with the Sunshine Golden Retriever Rescue group. We submitted the application primarily for Samson (http://www.sunshinegoldenrescue.com/blog/?p=4482) but even though we applied the very first day, we were not able to complete the last step of the adoption before another family rescued him.

Is it possible to leverage our Sunshine application with the DRC? They have already done a full application as well as the veterinary reference check and the phone interview. The last step remaining in the Sunshine process is the home visit, which we have not yet done due to the holidays. It would be a shame to use more volunteer time to redo this work with DRC so we thought we'd ask. I have already reached out to the coordinators at Sunshine Golden Rescue and they are glad to pass along our application...

thank you! Zach and Jenn

Hi there! Thanks for your reply. Obviously, the best interests of the dog need to be kept in mind. Our motivation for asking the question wasn't so much *our* time as it was the use of volunteer resources. Jenn volunteers for the local shelter so we realize that time is generally stretched thin for the organizations and we thought it made the most sense to leverage the work that has already been done. That having been said, our goal is to have a complete application on file so we'll likely begin that process now.

thanks!
Hi Zach. I am sad to read Samson is now pending. We were applying for him too, and got just as far through the process as you. I'm working on a few other dogs but I'm frankly losing hope. It wasn't easy to find my first rescue girl, but it seems especially daunting this time through :(

Good luck to you - I hope you find your dream doodle!
Good luck to you as well! Thanks for your kind wishes. We were also really sad and disappointed that Samson was adopted since he seemed like he might have been perfect for us. The timing was difficult with the holidays since there were no volunteers available for our house visit. In fact, we are still waiting for our house visit --- it is just a tough time for vounteer commitments, I think. My guess is that the family who rescued him was either local or was somehow able to get the process completed faster. Not sure how that could be since we were very on top of each step in our application and it probably could not have been done faster.

I'm sure somebody else will come up for us (and you!). We are trying to avoid buying from a breeder but we could go that route as well if we get too frustrated with the rescue process. Best of luck to you and your family. Happy holidays!
