Look at the what the HEART of our little group: KAREN, did!

HOMELESS GD NEEDS OUR HELP!!!!
This beautiful curly 2-yr-old girl is desperately in need of costly cataract surgery to restore her eyesight! She was surrendered to a humane society shelter by her owner, who was unable to care for her. The Humane Society would not adopt her out due to increasing blindness because of operable cataracts, and would not pay for the surgery to restore her sight; Second Chance Animal Rescue pulled her from the kill shelter and is trying to raise money for the surgery. Please take a look- we can give her 14 years of being able to see this wonderful world around her! Any donation in any amount will help; even $5. Thank for looking. (photos also below)

I sent a little in today. Every little bit is going to help. I know blind dogs can live very long, happy lives, but if her vision CAN be restored, it would be a shame to not be able to do it.

Here's the info w/o clicking the link:
Sophie is a 2 yr old golden-doodle (a cross between a golden retriever and a standard poodle). She's not on our website because she's ready for adoption - quite the opposite - we first have to restore her eyesight. Sophie has congenital cataracts in both eyes that severely limit her vision, and we want to have the eyes surgically repaired. She's a young girl with a long life expectancy, and we want her to be able to SEE again. Now she runs into the fence when she plays, and although she desperately tries to find a ball that is thrown for her, she can't. Eventually she would adapt to her surroundings as a blind dog would, but the veterinary opthamologist said that with surgical removal of both cataracts, her vision would be restored to 94% of normal. This is what we want for her but the surgery is expensive. To have both eyes done would cost $2200-$2300, and that is a lot of money for any rescue group. Sophie was originally surrendered to a humane society, but they wouldn't adopt her out because of her eye condition, and they wouldn't finance her surgery. We found a foster family to take her in and care for her through the eye surgery. Now comes the task of raising the money to pay for it. In today's economy, money is tight, but if you could make any donation to Sophie's cause, it would be greatly appreciated. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit so any donation is tax deductible. You can donate via PayPal or check. If by PayPal, go to our website (www.secondchancerescue.org) and click on "contributions". If by mail, our mailing address is:

Here is some infromation that Nancy @ Second Chance Animal Rescue wanted us to know re: "humane societies" :

I was reading some of the comments about HSUS. They don't have anything to do with individual humane societies. They may help states organize and start up or fix a facility/shelter, but they don't inspect or regulate organizations just because they call themselves "humane society". HSUS is a national organization but not affiliated with individuals shelters in the various states. Any nonprofit can add those words to their organization's name. We could have called ourselves Second Chance Humane Society. We chose our name because we don't have a facility/shelter and because we rescue animals and wanted to be looked at differently - a rescue. Hope that makes sense

I like to make my charitable donations in honor or memory of someone special to me. I sent my donation in honor of my own adopted doodle- if you have a doodle named Sophie, a donation to Sophie's Fund in your doodle's name would be especially nice!

Second Chance keeps all their dogs in foster homes; the rescue pays all expenses, and the foster home (foster parents are the most giving, caring, necessary part of the whole rescue chain) takes care of them until they are adopted, often working to housebreak, socialize, etc. Many rescues, IDOG included, do not actually have a facility for housing dogs, and rely on volunteers who take these dogs into their homes and help them begin their new lives. These rescues pull dogs from kill shelters and other facilities where they have little chance of getting proper care or being adopted. If you look at Second Chance's website, you'll see that they mention that they can only take in as many dogs as they have foster homes for. Let's hear it for the fosters!

This is a rescue similar to IDOG RRR in that they pull adoptable dogs from kill shelters, and house them with foster homes until they are adopted. They are committed to the dogs, and will care for them as long as it takes. I don't think there is any time limit on when the surgery can be performed, and I am sure that they are going to have it done, whether they raise the full amount or not. It is just they operate on donations and very modest adoption fees, and paying out this much money for one dog's surgery will deplete their entire budget, keeping them from helping other dogs, and possibly even put them in debt. I believe, and will verify if possible, that this money will be used for Sophie's surgery, whenever it takes place.
Thank you for your generous donation of $XX.XX to Second Chance Animal Rescue in order to help defray the cost of Sophie’s eye surgeries. We sincerely appreciate your gift (and so does Sophie).

Again, we greatly appreciate your support and your contribution. Your donation is tax deductible.

Sincerely,
Second Chance Animal Rescue

Actually, Second Chance is budgeting for a quarter of the cost of the surgery themselves, so the goal is about $1725 from the "Sophie's Fund" donations...although any extra sure won't hurt
