Part 14 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco is finally learning how to play with toys and entertains himself for hours on end with his variety of "babies".....Over the years with past pets, I always played "throw and fetch" for what seemed like hours on end. He's not too interested in participating in that game. What he really loves to do is to grab a toy in his mouth and "fling" it. Regardless of whether it goes straight up or flings to the side about 5 feet, he generally grabs it mid-air. It's pretty amusing to watch a dog his size jump straight up in the air on all "fours" about 2-3 feet. He's really agile and athletic. Of course he only plays like that if Rob or I are sitting close by admiring him.......last night when I was picking up the living room before bed I noticed four of his toys were spaced about a foot apart in a perfectly straight line...I'll have to watch and see if he continues to leave them that way or if it was purely coincidence....

I agree.....over the years all of our dogs have come to use as adults but none have ever been abused like Marco. Although I have very vivid memories of all of our passed pets, I can't ever, ever recall one that looked me in the eyes with such unbelievable love and trust. He's at such an elevated level and it's so heartwarming to know how far he's come in such a short time.

Like I said, it's because they had nothing that they now revel in HAVING something of their own.

That is adorable. What a personality he has. It seems with each successive blog post, he comes more out of his shell and more of his personality shines through.

It's funny, I was talking to Jacquie one day last week about how smart our puppymill/shelter dogs seem to be. We decided that these dogs who were not allowed to do the usual silly puppy things as young pups, must have expanded their minds because they were not able to spread their wings when they were youngins'. When other puppies get their mother and siblings love and learning, these dogs had to fend for themselves in a tiny cage. They must have let their minds travel and grow.

I don't know if this is true or not, I have not read any scientific studies that have been done. But they seem to have an awareness about them that is different from dogs raised in a litter and a loved home.

Marco wasn't able to be a happy go lucky puppy and probably never had any "babies" of his own and now that he does, he revels in them. Enjoy your time with Marco, he sounds like he is loved and happy and is finally getting to experience what was only in his mind, a short time ago.

Keep the updates coming! AND we like pictures, too. LOL
