Thanks for the information, Lynne.  We do have a 6 foot fenced in part of our yard along with a deck so the dog would have the ability to be in a safe environment.  We'll look again at the dogs in April and see if any of them are appropriate for us.  Have a nice weekend.

Thank you, Vicky. That is very sweet of you. Many rescues will require a fenced yard as it is safer for the dog. But many, including us, will take it on a case by case basis. Small dogs, generally, will be fine in a smaller enviornment. But ... a dog who is used to be running is better off in a fenced yard as a place they can be contained until they bond and are comfortable with the new adopter. A very active dog, will not do well in a small environment and will be looking for an opportunity to bolt. I have seen it happen many times and asking for a fenced yard is easier than losing a dog. Many of our dogs come up from very rural areas of the South and need to take time to feel safe. They get the chance to do that in their foster homes but may need a bit of time once they go to their new adoptive homes before they feel safe, loved and home. Don't give up, you will find your perfect pooch and be happy you waited for the right one. Again, Thank you!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that about Lacey.  That's great that she's with you.  

I think I just need to know if we would ever meet criteria with you for a small dog since we do not have a fully enclosed yard, but one fenced enough for a small dog.  I hope it works out.  Either way I made a donation and think you are doing such phenomenal work for these sweet dogs.

No, some dogs do fine alone. Lacey was found dumped in a parking lot and it took the gal weeks to catch her. She is on the skittish side but after a few weeks has really opened up to me. She will do best with another playful dog in the home.

Hi again.  I just wanted to let you know that the original information that i saw on Lacey and that i used to base my info on was through adoptapet.org, which also listed your organization.  I'm not sure if that listing is still up but it has different info from what is on petfinder.  

Also, just for my knowledge, would our family be considered for any dog or since we have not adopted before would another rescue or shelter be better suited to us?  I would love to adopt from you but need to know if you're the right organization for us to use in April.  Thanks again for responding back to me.

Thank you for your understanding. She is a very special girl and will stay with me until the perfect home is found.

The part about men and other dogs is in there:

"She is more fearful of men but bonds quickly to women. She likes toys and gets along with other dogs. She would do very well in a calm home where she has lots of comfy beds to lie on and her very own FULLY FENCED YARD and ANOTHER PLAYFUL DOG would be perfect."

Lynne, thank you for getting back to me.  I just wanted to let you know that when I submitted my application the information that I saw did not mention another dog nor her being fearful of men.  I would not have submitted the application if I had seen that.  I will continue to look through yours and other shelters/sites.  I think you are doing a wonderful thing.  I hope she gets adopted soon.  Best of luck.

Vicky, we have asked for another playful dog in the home for Lacey. And it looks like you have not had a dog in many years, she needs an experienced adopter. Plus, you said you needed to wait until April and we do not do that. Good luck in your search.

sent in an app for lacey last week. will the foster family contact us b4 references or how does the adoption process work. we r less than an hour away from mdtn. should we expect to hear within 2 weeks? love at first sight!!
