Part 16 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco did great during his sleepover at Bed, Bath, and Bisquit! On Saturday morning when we left him he was very scared and unsure of what was going on. As we entered the front door he was crouched down and slinking along with tail tucked. I have become so used to his sweet, boisterous self in recent weeks that I had totally forgotten that sad body poise which he had when we first adopted him. Anyway, the people at this place are so nice and such animal lovers that they were very gentle and… Continue

Part 15 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Today is going to be a fun (hopefully) new experience for Marco. Rob and I are leaving on an overnight trip so Marco's going to doggie daycare. Given his history I have been nervous about boarding him because I don't want him to feel caged.....thankfully I found the most awesome place close to home called "Bed, Bath, and Bisquit"....their whole concept is to provide an "at home" environment for their patrons. My first impression on checking this place out is the people just radiate as animal… Continue

Part 14 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco is finally learning how to play with toys and entertains himself for hours on end with his variety of "babies".....Over the years with past pets, I always played "throw and fetch" for what seemed like hours on end. He's not too interested in participating in that game. What he really loves to do is to grab a toy in his mouth and "fling" it. Regardless of whether it goes straight up or flings to the side about 5 feet, he generally grabs it mid-air. It's pretty amusing to watch a dog his… Continue

Part 13 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Today is a very joyful day......I decided this afternoon it was time to give Marco a bath so Rob lifted him (only because he wouldn't jump into it) into our garden tub for me......and the fun began....he so loves the spray nozzle wetting him and just stands there while soaking it all in. When I bathed him the first time after we adopted him, I was in tears at how emanciated he looked while he was wet. Today I couldn't even see his ribs or spine sticking up....what a wonderful… Continue

Part 12 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

This past week Marco has taken to hanging out in Papa's living area with him while we're at work. Previously he has been going upstairs to our bedroom as soon as we leave for the day and staying there until we get home. I'm really excited that he's spending his day downstairs in the company of such a sweet, wonderful human. Yesterday while we were at work my sister-in-law came over to visit with Papa and Marco barked and barked because a stranger was at the door. As soon as she came in he went… Continue

Part 11 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco is recovering very nicely since his surgery. He is leaving his stitches alone and we only put the cone on, or as we call it the "satellite", during the day when we're at work or at night during sleeptime.

As you all know from my previous posts, we've had a challange getting Marco to eat and thankfuly his appetite seems to be increasing. I've taken the advice from all of you and Papa is now the one feeding him and giving him treats. This has allowed for him to totally warm up… Continue

Part 10 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco did great today with his neutering surgery. He's only been home a few hours and is very tired and quiet. I know it's just the anesthesia wearing off but it's such a change from his recently found rambunctious self that I've grown accustomed to. And let me just say that he really, really HATES the "cone" he's going to have to wear for the next week so he doesn't rip his stitches out.

When we first put it on him, he stood frozen in place for… Continue

Part 9 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

My sweet boy is scheduled to be neutered tomorrow and I'm nervous. I realize that usually rescue's are already altered when you adopt them but for some reason Marco wasn't. I'm thinking that because he had previously been so abused and starved that maybe he just wasn't healthy enough. We've been letting him settle in with us before undergoing surgery and feel that he's finally ready. I'm in total agreement with the surgery but am nervous about him undergoing anesthesia given the fact he has a… Continue

Part 8 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

The first time we met Marco on his adoption day his foster mom told us that the entire time he had been with her, he always slept with his head hidden under the bed. Sure enough he has been doing the same thing with us since he joined our family. It's actually pretty funny to see because his long body is all stretched out with only his head hidden. I'm certainly not an expert but I've always thought he just felt safer that way. We have also noticed that during the day when he wants to nap he… Continue
