Marco has a baby Sister!!!!!

The past couple of weeks have been very hectic but fun in the Hart household. Marco has a new baby sister who is 9 weeks old. Her name is "Mocha Chaca Latte" and we call her Chaca; she is the first puppy we have had in our home in over 29 years. As you all know, Marco is totally my baby and although he's very sweet with Rob and Papa, he's most definitely a "mommy cling-on".

That being said, a few months ago Rob told me he really missed having his own "buddy" that would go everywhere… Continue

Forget the laundry, love a Doodle!

For the last three weeks I have been fighting a good old fashioned case of "whooping cough" but am happy to report I finally feel healed. Leave it to me to catch something from the 1920's...hah! I didn't even know it still existed until I caught it. Anyway, thank God for modern medicine. Even though I've had an annoying cough that has been exhausting I have still worked, so needless to say I've been really tired every night.

Marco has been hovering over me since I've been sick and… Continue

Socializing Marco

Marco is such a different dog than the one we adopted eight short months ago. He finally has become so calm and happy in his home "safe zone" that I'm finally comfortable to begin exposing him to real life, meaning other people, whom he has always been so petrified of. Today I took him with me to have the oil changed in my car. Oh my gosh, it was such fun!!!!!! As the oil was being changed I sat outside on a bench enjoying Marco's company and a delicious cup of coffee. He was actually quite… Continue

Part 26 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

I have lived in Houston, Tx for 15 years and never remember it being this cold. Please don't laugh, but it's supposed to get down to 18 degrees tonight and for those of us that are used to 50 degree winter temps, that's cold! And the fierce winds are making it seem even colder.......anyway, Marco and Lilly have been snuggling close staying warm together during the last few days.

After 8 months Marco is finally socialized enough where he… Continue

Part 25 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

The New Year's eve fireworks have finally started and my Marco is NOT a happy boy!!! He has been so calm and peacefully settled during the previous months, so it really surprised me how frantic he became when the noise started.

Although he's only been with us a short 7 months it seems like a lifetime. I have no other knowledge of his upbringing other than knowing he was chained inside a storage shed in someone's backyard for the first two years of his life. As the fireworks continue… Continue

Part 24 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

It's so precious to watch Marco interact with Max & Lilly, (our two bengal kitties). Since we first brought him home, our greatest concern has been that he will unintenionally injure one of them while playing. Especially since he sincerely belives he's their size, He just doesn't realize his size........Lilly is like the size of his head and he loves and licks her constantly.

Although Marco's veryhesitant with Max, as you can see, Max… Continue

Part 23 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco has recently decided to adopt a chair and ottoman in our living room that no one ever sits in! We have officially named it the "Marco magnet" because he just seems to be "sucked" up into it for some serious comfortable relaxion time! And he always has one of his favorite "babies" with him which is really sweet because when we first adopted him he just didn't understand having toys and babies.

Other than our two kitties, we've never allowed… Continue

Part 22 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco has been bugging me all day wanting to know when we can leave to go trick-or-treating. He is so excited about his dragon costume.

It's only fitting that he should be a dragon because every single time we meet someone new they say Marco looks exactly like Falcor, the flying luckdragon in "The Never Ending Story".…

Part 21 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Everyday is an adventure with Marco around. It's so much fun to watch his progress on a daily basis. If you'll remember from my earlier posts, when we first adopted him, he was absolutely terrified of the camera and thankfully that seems to be lessening. He will actually look at me when I take his picture now and doesn't run and hide under the bed when the flash goes off. He also delights in playing with all of his toys. He generally has three… Continue

Marco isn't Skinny Anymore!!!

Hooray!!!! This week it's been 4 months since we adopted Marco. He's such a huge part of our life that it seems like he's been with us much, much longer. He has changed and grown in so many ways that he doesn't even look or act like the same dog. What's really phenomenal is the fact that he's no longer so starved looking. Even when he's wet he looks healthy, no more protruding ribs or back bone....check out the pic I posted and you'll see a nicely rounded tummy on him.…

Part 20 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Yesterday I learned Lesson #1 which is "don't ever try to explain over the phone to a dog groomer you've never used before what kind of cut you want...... and I also learned Lesson #2, "don't trust your husband to properly convey the grooming instructions either".... hahahahah. I'm still wondering what Lesson #3 might be but I'm content with leaving it with the first two.

We recently heard of a really great "traveling dog groomer" that several of our neighbors use and love. She has a… Continue

Part 19 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Well, it's finally happened......after years and years of loving and having animals I FINALLY know what it feels like to have a lapdog. Being a "big dog" lover I have always had large babies and never really experienced a true to form "lapdog" before. Over the years, all of my dogs have been a huge part of my life and heart, and have always been close by me wherever I may have been, but never in my lap......I now have a lapdog, although he's pushing 60 lbs.

I'm not sure if it's the… Continue

Part 18 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Saturday is my one day a week to sleep in which I totally cherish....this morning I woke up and found Marco stretched out full length beside me on Rob's side of the bed (Rob doesn't allow him in bed with us) but as soon as Rob's feet hit the ground in the morning our boy jumps up to join me....Lilly our cat was cuddled up next to me under the covers on the other side, and of course Max, our other cat and the Alpha of our home was at my feet.....what a Glorious way to begin the day! Just having… Continue

Part 17 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Last week was a very busy week for us. On Saturday we got our very first rescue foster doodle "Brandy" through IDOG. She is a very shy and needy girl who needs lots of love and attention. When I first met her I was reminded of Marco when we first adopted him. For the first day or two she would occasionally sit on our stairway mid point and just watch us. She was also very good when I leashed her to go outside to do her business.

But her favorite place to chill was under our bed which… Continue

Part 16 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco did great during his sleepover at Bed, Bath, and Bisquit! On Saturday morning when we left him he was very scared and unsure of what was going on. As we entered the front door he was crouched down and slinking along with tail tucked. I have become so used to his sweet, boisterous self in recent weeks that I had totally forgotten that sad body poise which he had when we first adopted him. Anyway, the people at this place are so nice and such animal lovers that they were very gentle and… Continue

Part 15 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Today is going to be a fun (hopefully) new experience for Marco. Rob and I are leaving on an overnight trip so Marco's going to doggie daycare. Given his history I have been nervous about boarding him because I don't want him to feel caged.....thankfully I found the most awesome place close to home called "Bed, Bath, and Bisquit"....their whole concept is to provide an "at home" environment for their patrons. My first impression on checking this place out is the people just radiate as animal… Continue

Part 14 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco is finally learning how to play with toys and entertains himself for hours on end with his variety of "babies".....Over the years with past pets, I always played "throw and fetch" for what seemed like hours on end. He's not too interested in participating in that game. What he really loves to do is to grab a toy in his mouth and "fling" it. Regardless of whether it goes straight up or flings to the side about 5 feet, he generally grabs it mid-air. It's pretty amusing to watch a dog his… Continue

Part 13 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Today is a very joyful day......I decided this afternoon it was time to give Marco a bath so Rob lifted him (only because he wouldn't jump into it) into our garden tub for me......and the fun began....he so loves the spray nozzle wetting him and just stands there while soaking it all in. When I bathed him the first time after we adopted him, I was in tears at how emanciated he looked while he was wet. Today I couldn't even see his ribs or spine sticking up....what a wonderful… Continue

Part 12 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

This past week Marco has taken to hanging out in Papa's living area with him while we're at work. Previously he has been going upstairs to our bedroom as soon as we leave for the day and staying there until we get home. I'm really excited that he's spending his day downstairs in the company of such a sweet, wonderful human. Yesterday while we were at work my sister-in-law came over to visit with Papa and Marco barked and barked because a stranger was at the door. As soon as she came in he went… Continue

Part 11 of My name is Marco and This is My Story.......

Marco is recovering very nicely since his surgery. He is leaving his stitches alone and we only put the cone on, or as we call it the "satellite", during the day when we're at work or at night during sleeptime.

As you all know from my previous posts, we've had a challange getting Marco to eat and thankfuly his appetite seems to be increasing. I've taken the advice from all of you and Papa is now the one feeding him and giving him treats. This has allowed for him to totally warm up… Continue
