A FOOTNOTE TO ADOPTERS

"Lassie and Cleo and Rin Tin Tin and Toto don't show up in rescue. We don't get the elegantly coiffed, classically beautiful, completely trained, perfectly behaved dog. We get the leftovers. Dogs that other people have incompetently bred, inadequately socialized, ineffectively 'trained,' and badly treated. Most Rescue dogs have had it. They've been pushed from one lousy situation to another. They've never had proper veterinary care, kind and consistent training, or sufficient company. They've lived outside, in a crate, or in the basement. They're scared, depressed and anxious. Some are angry. Some are sick. Some have given up. But we are Rescue and we don't give up. We never give up on a dog. We know that a dog is a living being, with a spirit and a heart and feelings. Our dogs are not commodities, things, or garbage. They are part of sacred creation and they deserve as much love and care and respect as the next Westminster champion. So please, please don't come to rescue in the hopes of getting a 'bargain,' or indeed of 'getting' anything. Come to Rescue to give, to love, to save a life -- and to mend your own spirit. For Rescue will reward you in ways you never thought possible. I can promise you this -- a rescue dog will make you a better person."

Hi Rebecca, I also posted this to your page. We don't actually have dogs in our care. We scour the Internet and bring all the posts we find under one banner. The DRRC, right now, is a listing and resource. In the future we hope to branch out to foster and adopt out dogs.

Your best bet is to join Doodles in Need, not the Discussion group. In DIN, find your region, click on that and go through the available dogs. On the bottom of the listings, click on "Follow" so you receive email updates. If you see dogs you like, click on their link and go fill out applications in several shelters in your area. That way, even if you do not get that dog, once you are approved, the shelter will go through their approved apps even before they post. I understand your dilemma and hope we can help you. Please feel free to contact me if you need further assistance.

Hello fellow Doodle fans!
I am looking for an adoptable doodle to become a member of my family in eastern Tennessee. I have two young children and one older son. At my husband's insist, he believe I should adopt a "hearing" dog for my safety. I was told that labradoodle would be better suited for my son's allergy and would make a good "hearing" dog for myself as I am deaf (hearing impaired). I can't spend a lot of time online search for that one wonderful doodle because it is time consuming and it would forced me to be neglectful of my children and other duties in the process. I am going to work on saving money for the adoption. Is there anyone who would be glad to help?

Warmest regards,
Bec

Jeannine,
There may be hope! I just saw on the Dogs in Danger site that he is back up. Perhaps he got a reprieve? Would you be able to call the shelter and find out? http://www.dogsindanger.com/dog.jsp?did=1237313756343

I am sorry, Jeannine, I know it's hard. Gringo is in a better place, playing and happy. Believe that.

I know, we were too Deena. It was just getting too confusing. Especially for people who only want to search for dogs. I am glad you understand.

I am so happy that you created this group. I was really "bummed" over the new rule, although I completely understand why.
