There are many responsible folks without fenced in yards who walk their dogs. To discriminate in that way is not always a benifit in the end. Speaking for myself as a loving owner who raised many happy healthy dogs without a fence and other I know as well who would love to adopt a homeless pet but do not want or have a fence. So it is easier to go to a breeder. The circle goes round and round. Your trying to eliminate puppy mill breeders on one hand but not making it practical for everyone on the other hand to adopt the potentially killed dog from the gas chamber. In my oppinion no fence vs. gas chamber??? Hum, I'd lift the no fence rule to help save the lives, and don't come back with then get a fence when I am responsible enough to walk a dog as well as the folks in NYC do. So what we dont adopt out dogs in all cities next?"</p>

<div id="yui_3_7_2_20_1357046865479_53">If you read the discussion, you will see that we do try to take it on a case by case basis according to the personality of the dog, but a rescue dog can be a runner until he bonds with the owner and as we have no trouble finding homes for our dogs where they have an enclosed area that they can feel safe in until they do bond, we will always err on the side of caution and look for homes with fences. By the way, we DO NOT adopt our dogs to urban/city environments under any circumstances. Our priority is the care and safety of the dogs in our rescue. We cannot stop puppy mills, we cannot make stupid people understand that EVERY pet store puppy is a puppy mill dog, we cannot legislate breeders from breeding or adopting to anyone with the money. But we CAN and will always try to protect the dogs we have vowed to save under our care.</div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_20_1357046865479_53"></div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_20_1357046865479_53">According to your area code, you are in The Carolina's. Did you know that my little North East Rescue saves dogs on a monthly basis from the HIGH KILL SHELTERS in your state? Did you know that there are MANY back yard breeders in your state who dump poodles, doodles and other truly beautiful dogs in YOUR HIGH KILL SHELTERS on a daily basis, that I and many other all volunteer rescues try to save before time runs out, which is normally only a couple days? You might be interested to know that we spent over $42,000 in saving, vetting, boarding and transporting Southern Kill Shelter dogs to the North East in 2012 because MANY of your neighbors DO NOT spay/neuter, protect against Heartworm or even keep their pets in their yards. If you know about the Gas Chambers, do you also know about HEART STICK, which is also common in your state? OUR rescued/rehomed/saved dogs will be protected and safe, no matter what. THEY are our only priority.</div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_20_1357046865479_53"></div>
<div id="yui_3_7_2_20_1357046865479_53">I am sorry if you feel slighted by our fence policy and I will not tell you to get a fence, that is your business, as is YOUR CHOICE to go to a breeder while thousands in your state's shelters, die on a daily basis. That is on you, not us. Good luck in your search."</div>

<p>It is important to take it on a case by case basis, Andrea. I am glad you found your perfect pooches. Hopefully, everyone is as dedicated as you are to ensuring their dogs are getting enough exercise but sadly, that is not always the case and why we see so many dogs in rehome situations because they are too energetic and not getting enough stimulation. That's why we started this discussion and it is important to continue it. You are right about that they are very special, but I am sure that…</p>

<p>We rescued two doodles last March that were 5years old. We do not have a fence as they are not allowed by HOA rules where we live. We walk them morning and night and try to take them to a dog park three to four times a week. We do have underground fencing but it is not a barrier as they will walk through as if it doesn't exist on occasion. They are not outside without supervision so I belive that each case should be handled individually. We are retired and also have a place in the…</p>

They are not outside without supervision so I belive that each case should be handled individually. We are retired and also have a place in the Adirondack Mountains of New York which is very isolated and the dogs are off-leash but supervised. They have brought us unbelivable joy and are the most loving dogs. They are BIG and some people thought we were crazy but we are the winners. We have had lots of dogs and these guys are very special.</p> It is true, Dan. <p>It is true, Dan. It is a catch 22 for some people. Most people don't even read what is in the Petfinder ad advertising the dog. But there is no way to determine a "good family" from a bad one, unless there are some rules in place to follow. A physical fence is a safety barrier but it really means nothing if the family doesn't keep the dog leashed while outside the fenced area. A physical fence is a safety barrier but it really means nothing if the family doesn't keep the dog leashed while outside the fenced area. In our contract, we ask the dog be kept leashed at all times in the first 2 weeks anytime he is outside the fence but really who knows if that really takes place. We try to take the fence policy on a case by case basis, but in general, asking for a fence for every dog saves time and energy in reading so many inappropriate apps and having to weed out those not acceptable to adopting. Most rescues do have a fence policy and it is in place to protect the dog, which is the main goal of a rescue.</p> It's a catch 22. It's a catch 22. Respected and trustworthy centers have stringent rules that some families can not follow (like a 9k to 10k $ fence) <br />
Good families get frustrated at the no's or the never heard backs that they go to other sites or providers that do let them adopt only to find its a sham <br />
Or a sick or behavior issue related dogs. Then the whole process gets a bad name. I understand you don't know good homes from bad homes<br />
But it is just , really hard, to keep focus and keep tying.<br />

<p>Thanks I hope so... I really thought the dog I applied for WAS the perfect dog for us. Fell in love with him the moment I saw his picture. He was very young so we were just denied because of his high energy. I actually prefer a dog with a lot of drive.. they are so eager and willing to learn. Oh well.. the search continues.</p>

<p>I am sorry to hear that you were denied without even a hearing, Dona. That's pretty sad. We try to take it on a case by case basis in our rescue but given the reasons given above, with an older, found as a stray, I will usually lean toward the fence, too. Don't give up, you will find your perfect dog.</p>

<p>I was recently denied of a golden doodle because I don't have a fence. Frankly I was a little annoyed because they stated the dog is high energy and needs their freedom. If they had taken the time to ask me about my activities, they would have known that I am extremely active and was looking for a dog/partner to share my activities with. Not to mention my husband and I were professional dog trainers and ran a successful business for many years. Instead, we were just denied. Friends of…</p>

Not to mention my husband and I were professional dog trainers and ran a successful business for many years. Instead, we were just denied. Friends of ours can't even believe people who have the knowledge like us and love our pets more than the world could possibly be denied a chance to provide a home to an animal. In my opinion.. that dog just lost the home and love of a lifetime. It's sad really.. because we will probably be forced to seek a breeder instead of trying to help organizations we have always respected. </p> That's wonderful, Colleen and…tag:www.doodlerescuecollective.com,2012-03-22:2747693:Comment:1711512012-03-22T19:51:17.979ZLM Fowler - Adminhttp://www.doodlerescuecollective.com/profile/LynneNJ
