Please be patient with me Lynn, as I find my way around your web site. This is wonderful info. about the dif. between shelters and private rescue. This is a fun but important decision to make both for me and a dog looking for that forever home and companion too. I hope to find a dog in Va. or the Northern part of NC. if possible because it would be easier for me to get there and to get to know the dog. Anyway I'm just going to look around the site and familiarize myself with it. Thanks, Suzy
Welcome, Suzy and Thank you. It's been awhile since I have had time to write, but the rescue takes much of my time. Searching for your Furever Friend can be time consuming, too but keep with it. Your perfect pooch is out there waiting for you.
Thanks so much for taking time to answer me Lynn. I was looking at a dog, I think his name was Bently and he has "recourse qaurding issue". Could you please tell me a little about this. I am actually a little hard of hearing and actually looking for a dog that will bark if a stranger comes around, not to attack but let me know. I know nothing about this particular hummm trait for lack of a better word. Could you please inlighten me a bit because it may actually be something that if directed the right way could help me. Hope that makes sense since I know nothing about it. Suzy
There are varying levels and symptoms of resource guarding but the basic of it is he "guards" something like his food or a bone and will growl and at it's worst, might bite if another dog or person tries to take it. I have a dog who is o RG and he treasures socks. He will get one every once in awhile and won't let it go for anything. Just carries it. He is a low level guarder but when I first got him he was terrible. It takes a lot of patience, but it can usually be overcome. You would have to do some research if you adopted a RG and be aware of triggers, but there is hope if you did adopt a guarder. I hope that helps.
Yes, it does help. I will 'google' the ? also and see what comes up. There is of course hope for a dog with this kind of habit and with time and patience and realizing he can keep his food and his sock he can relax and be at peace ;) Even though I am 65 this year, I am also very active but time has taught me patience is a great healer and teacher. I have time now for both :)
